Introduction

Legacy Computer Institute, LCI, is a private educational institution operating in the niche area of computer training and information technology knowledge dissemination. LCI represent an advanced class of private educational institutions that are focused on turning round the fortunes of our nation. It is purposely created to make Nigeria a beneficiary and major player in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It will bring the most advanced information technology to Nigerians, an effort that will not only develop the economy, but may close the digital divide opening up between different part of the country; and contribute to closing a similar divide between the developed and the emerging economies. The Institute

Is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission Abuja as Legacy Computer Institute, Company Limited by Guarantee, RC No. 607446. This allows it to operate as a non-profit institution whose surplus income will be applied solely for the purpose of carrying out its objectives. It is also registered with the Ministry of Education of Kaduna State. The promoters of the institute want Nigeria to join the IT empowered emerging economies so that its people can take advantage of the forces of globalization, instead of becoming victims. The LCI has a board of Directors who chart its course, guide its development and achievement of its goals.

Administration: Immediate responsibility for routine administration of the institute rests on a Director, assisted by a Management Committee consisting of staff and others nominated by the board. The Director is the Secretary of the Board of Directors and is line manager to the Academic Coordinator, Internal Auditor, Administration Manager and Technical Coordinator. The Administration Assistants, Accountant, Marketing Officers and Confidential Secretary all of them answering to the Administration Manager make up the rest of the core administration.

Computer School: The Academic Coordinator oversees the drawing up, adoption and operation of all curricula for general, professional and specialized courses. All instructors are under him. All training and academic courses are organized by the computer school, which also selects, admits and trains students; it also certifies graduates at the end of their study.

Internet Cafe: The internet cafe provides commercial internet and ancillary services like VOIP telephone, to members of the public and visitors to the institute. This service is supervised by the Cafe Officer, who is administratively answerable to the LCI System Administrator, who manages the entire LAN network and ensures it offers optimal performance. The Officer is assisted by a Cyber Lab Assistant. The Cafe is licensed by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).

Business Centre: The Business Centre provides complimentary services in the form of binding, photocopy, desktop publishing and printing services, to the internet cafe. It is run by a Business Center Officer answering to the System Administrator.

Computer Assembly and Repair Workshop: The Technical Coordinator, who has overall responsibilities for the integrity, maintenance and smooth operation of all computer and allied service in the LCI also manages the assembly and repair workshop. The workshop will also assemble and offer for sale to the public LCI banded PC clones at competitive prices. The Coordinator is the line manager to the System Administrator and Network Engineer.
